[[Ivan the Terrible]], the first [[Tsar of all Russia]], reigning from 1547 to 1584 Ivan () is a male given name of Slavic origin, related to a variant of the Greek name (English: John), which in turn derives from the Hebrew (), meaning "God is gracious". The name is strongly associated with Slavic countries and cultures. The earliest known bearer was the Bulgarian Saint Ivan of Rila.
