This is surprising at first glance, because the global incidence of child labor has been on the decline for several decades now. What accounts for the increased interest? One factor is the growing emphasis in the development literature on poverty reduction, particularly among the most vulnerable sections of the population, which includes children, especially working children. Simultaneously, with the heightened recognition of the importance of human capital accumulation as a catalyst and perhaps even a prerequisite for development, child labor is viewed as a major impediment to economic progress. 2014-02-26T17:37:07Z 2014-02-26T17:37:07Z 2003-05 Journal Article http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/2003/05/17741989/child-labor-development-introduction World Bank Economic Review http://hdl.handle.net/10986/17174 English en_US CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 IGO http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/igo World Bank Washington, DC: World Bank Publications & Research :: Journal Article Publications & Research
