Description
Summary:Economic policymakers in developing countries across the world are focusing on expanding financial inclusion. This agenda assumes greater significance for countries like Pakistan, where financial inclusion levels are quite low. It has led to several policy interventions in Pakistan over the past decade and a half, including the promotion of microfinance, the promotion of small and medium enterprise (SME) finance, and the enabling of digital finance. These interventions have begun to show results. This background paper has been developed to inform the discussions on advancing women's financial inclusion in Pakistan. It seeks to map the current state of financial access for women and to provide insights into their financial behavior gleaned from the recently completed Access to Finance Surveys of 2015.
