As the world becomes increasingly digitized, the nextgeneration of ID systems use new technologies to provide digital proof of legal identityfor in-person and remote transactions. These digital ID systems can help achieve multipledevelopment goals, but also create challenges for digital privacy and data protection. This notedescribes these risks and then presents concrete steps to mitigate them while harnessing the fullpotential of digital ID for development. 2019-10-25T19:25:22Z 2019-10-25T19:25:22Z 2019-10 Brief http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/508291571358375350/Digital-ID-and-the-Data-Protection-Challenge-Practitioners-Note http://hdl.handle.net/10986/32629 English CC BY 3.0 IGO http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/igo World Bank World Bank, Washington, DC Publications & Research Publications & Research :: Brief
